WebP to SVG for Cricut

Many design marketplaces and websites now deliver images as WebP. Most cutting software cannot open WebP at all — CutVector reads it directly and gives you a standard SVG. Cricut Design Space imports SVG layers as separate colors you can attach, weld and cut on vinyl, HTV, cardstock or Infusible Ink.

Two-line quotes saved from the web as WebP become one vinyl layer, each word kept in place for transfer tape. Both lines keep their relative position, so one sheet of transfer tape lifts the whole quote. If you want each word on a different color, raise Colors to 2 and recolor the source first.

How to convert WebP to SVG for Cricut

  1. Open CutVector and drop your WebP file (or several at once). No need to convert WebP to PNG first; drop the .webp file straight in. Animated WebP uses the first frame.
  2. Pick the Cricut cut preset — clean layered shapes for vinyl & htv.
  3. Switch to the Cut lines view and check every outline is where you expect. Adjust Smoothing, Ignore specks or Min hole area if needed.
  4. Set Output width to the finished size, then download the SVG.
  5. In Design Space choose Upload → Upload Image → browse to the SVG. Each color arrives as its own layer; click “Add to Canvas” and resize if needed.

FAQ

Do I lose quality converting WebP to SVG?

No — the SVG is resolution-independent, so it can be resized for a mug or a wall without getting blurry.

Can I split the two lines onto different vinyl colors?

Yes. In Design Space select the layer, click Ungroup, then assign each line a different color before cutting.

Why are my letters cutting as separate pieces on Cricut?

Script letters that touch must be welded. Turn on Weld in CutVector before exporting, or select the layer in Design Space and click Weld.

What size will the SVG be in Design Space?

Design Space reads the millimeter size written in the file, so it imports at the Output width you chose. You can still resize on the canvas.

Why can’t Design Space open my WebP file?

Cutting apps accept SVG, DXF, PNG and JPG but generally not WebP. Converting it to SVG with CutVector skips the extra PNG step and gives you cut lines in one go.

Is lossy WebP as noisy as JPG?

Usually less. Start with the default speck filter and only raise it if you see stray dots in the “Cut lines” view.
