FAQ & troubleshooting
Try your own image free before buying — previews are unlimited.
Do my images get uploaded?
No. Tracing, cleanup and every export run inside your browser on your device. We never receive, store or see your files. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
What images work best?
Simple, high-contrast graphics: silhouettes, lettering, logos, clip-art, hand-drawn line art scanned on white paper. Photos and soft gradients will be simplified into flat color areas — CutVector is not an AI redraw tool.
Which preset should I choose?
Cricut cut for vinyl/HTV layers. Laser cut for one welded, kerf-compensated cut path. Laser engrave keeps fine detail as fill areas. Sticker keeps colors and adds a magenta print-then-cut contour. Single-color logo gives one smooth, welded shape.
My preview is empty or inverted.
Your art is probably light on a dark background — tick Invert. For single-color presets, set Threshold above 0 to override the automatic cutoff: higher keeps lighter areas.
Too many tiny pieces / jagged edges.
Raise Ignore specks and Min hole area, and increase Smoothing. For blurry JPGs, a larger source image helps more than anything else.
Letters are cut into separate pieces in Cricut Design Space.
Turn on Weld so overlapping shapes become one path. In Design Space, the file imports as one layer per color.
What is kerf and what value should I use?
Kerf is the width of material the laser burns away. CutVector grows each shape by half the kerf so pieces come out true to size. Typical: 0.1–0.2 mm for diode lasers on 3 mm plywood; measure yours with a test square.
Which file format for my machine?
Cricut Design Space and Silhouette: SVG (or DXF for Silhouette Basic). Glowforge: SVG or PDF. xTool Creative Space and LightBurn: SVG or DXF. DXF files are in millimeters with one layer per color.
What does the free plan include?
Unlimited previews of up to 3 images at a time, watermarked PNG downloads, and one clean SVG per day. Pro (one-time payment, pricing coming soon) unlocks unlimited SVG, DXF, PDF, kerf/stroke/contour exports and batches of 50.
How does the license work?
After purchase you receive a license key by email. Click Unlock Pro and paste it. One key works on up to 3 devices/browsers; use Deactivate to move it. Clearing your browser data removes the key from that browser — just paste it again.
Refunds?
Full refund within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. Reply to your receipt or email support@formchime.com.
Can I convert any image I find online?
No. Only convert images you own or have permission to use. Converting someone else's artwork does not make it yours. See our Terms.
